Off-Grain by Chloé is a ready-to-wear line designed for the rebellious girl who chooses to go against the grain. Our consumer appreciates craftsmanship and high-quality pieces in her wardrobe that fit her bohemian chic taste without the designer price. Creating a ready-to-wear line for a designer brand includes being price-conscious when choosing fabrics and closures while maintaining the aesthetic and signature styles of the designer brand. The creation of this line entailed combining variations of fabric textures and styles to create five looks that could be mixed and matched. This line is defined by its forced cohesion of a variety of fabrics, such as suede, wool, leather, and chiffon. The fabric and finishes are layered, and the designs have off-kilter placements and constructions. Some garments are embellished with gold closures and rhinestones for practicality and style. Styling these pieces entails the eclectic use of accessories to further draw into the boho-chic aesthetic of the collection, such as handmade scarves, neck pieces, and belts. The names of each look are inspired by the street names and numbers of Chloé’s flagship stores throughout the world, including Hong Kong, London, Paris, New York City, and Los Angeles.
From initial ideas to final garments.
Created in collaboration with Annabelle Brager, Ashley Johanson, Josie Buckalew, Mallee Nichols, and myself, this semester-long project captures the evolution of our ideas, inspirations, and design development from concept to final showcase.

Next, we moved into the pattern-making, drafting custom slopers tailored to our models’ measurements. Then came the fun part: shopping for fabric! Our team took a group trip to Fine Fabrics in Atlanta, GA, armed with a clear plan: source five key fabric types, suede, chiffon, leather, wool, and one of our choice. We also kept in mind all the value-added details outlined in our presentation to ensure each material chosen aligned with our vision.

With our final fabrics selected, we began constructing mockups to better understand the fit, drape, and overall feel of each garment. This stage allowed us to work through multiple rounds of fittings, fine-tuning silhouettes and construction techniques. Through this hands-on process, we perfected each piece, ensuring our final garments reflected both our creative vision and technical precision.
This video showcases the hands-on details within the design process, exploring shape, flow, and structure through fabric draping.

8448 Melrose Place is a chic fusion of structure and softness. This ensemble pairs suede plum micro shorts with a zipper fly, belt loops, and delicate stitching details, offering a refined take on modern femininity. The dusty blue chiffon blouse adds an ethereal contrast, with its detailed draping, complementing the rich texture of the shorts. This look balances bold sophistication with effortless elegance—an edgy but effortless ensemble that highlights the Chloé brand identity.

This capstone was filled with endless late nights in Spidle, as well as countless hours of designing, sewing, and problem-solving. This collection is not only the result of hard work but a testament to the incredible group behind it. What started as a project collaboration turned into lasting friendships, and I am endlessly grateful for the memories we created along the way.
